For decades computational linguists have been searching for solutions to disambiguate homophones and lexicons. The popular technology being used is grammatical analysis and processing. Currently content analysis has gained greater attention. It is clear that the information among content contributes to the process of disambiguation. However, the nature of a unified technology that can be simply used to disambiguate phonemes and lexicons is still not understood. The most widely accepted belief is that common sense plays the key role in disambiguation. The question remains "What is common sense?"
Based on the findings of neurophysiology, Abstract Productions has simulated a natural intelligence system, which is implemented with human logic. The Natural Intelligence System is a hierarchical and highly ordered structure. When information is processed in the system, logic is automatically carried out. This system is also a unified structure in that all human intelligence functions perform coherently, just as our brain does.
Due to the simplicity of this unified and highly ordered system, information can be categorized, processed and retrieved with ease. Consider the way we determine the meaning of the word "conduct" without other relevant information. We would be able to list several definitions. When we determine its meaning from "conduct symphony" and "conduct electricity", we are able to conclude the specified meaning. The Natural Intelligence System works in the same way. This disambiguation technology is not based on rules. Rather it is based on a unified structure, just as our brain is. This Natural Intelligence System provides the natural means to associate meanings to words. When the meaning of a word is searched, the meaning of the content is able to determine the specific selection. When the meaning of the content is not directly associated with the word, the Natural Intelligence System is able to "think through" the knowledge base and make a logical selection, just as our brain does.
The disambiguation technology that Abstract Productions provides is not an artificial intelligence technology. Rather it is a natural intelligence technology. That is, the technology is not an arbitrary and isolated solution. It is a comprehensive and universal solution. Its operation is built upon the full range of human cognitive functions. Therefore it gains the power of human-like intelligence.
Since this technology is built on the structure of natural intelligence, and the solution is based on the knowledge of the system instead of programmed rules, the knowledge base of the system is always expandable through learning. The system can be a general tool, or tailored to an expert domain, depending on the content of the knowledge base. |
